Gun Hill Brewing Company: Craft Beer from the Bronx

The Bronx is having its say! And Gun Hill Brewing Company is leading the way for craft brewers as the first company to bring beer-making back to the Bronx since the 1960’s. Try the company’s fresh, unfiltered brews at Taste of Tribeca this year and give these self-described Bronx “punks” a good old-fashioned slap on the back.

Everyone’s a regular at Walker’s

It’s hard to appreciate a restaurant or restaurant crowd more than Walker’s. When we can’t stop for a beer or burger, we still love to look in the windows to see who’s there. Coworkers laughing over drinks, a plumber or electrician on his lunch break, a couple enjoying a dinner out–every one of them looks so happy to be there! (As parents, we’re happy to visit because they have such a good kids’ menu.) Walker’s will be back at the festival this year with an old favorite that both kids and adults will enjoy: the pulled pork sandwich, served with coleslaw and watermelon. We hope you come out and try it again!

Being Smith & Mills

We’re not sure what we love more about Smith & Mills: the food and drinks or the ambiance. How many times can a person walk past this converted carriage house with candles flickering inside, doors flung open, and beautiful people spilling out onto the sidewalk, without feeling a twinge of, well…desperation. [Insert despairing interior dialogue of choice, leading to the eventual decision to postpone a meal there until the weekend, when you can really relax and enjoy…] But, we digress. The main point is that everything about this Tribeca haunt is appealing, and we’re glad they’ve agreed to join us on Saturday! And, that we’ll get to sample their oysters between visits…

The Taste of Tribeca 2016 map is up on our website, and it’s a goody!

If you’ve been attending the festival for years, you’ll be excited to see that our founding participants–those restaurants that have been with us since 1994–have a star next to them not the map. Restaurants that are new the festival are shown with a yellow diamond beside them.

Please also note the Sportszone and City Winery Live Music stage on Greenwich Street near Harrison (musical performances running from noon to 3PM), and the Kids’ Zone on Duane and Hudson, with live shows running through 1:30pm.

If you’re looking for H2O, head to the water station on Greenwich near Washington Market Park. Or, if you’d like to take home a T-shirt, water bottle or other Taste of Tribeca 2016 souvenir, check out our merchandise stand on Duane Street at Staple Street.

Racines NY and Other Restaurants New to the Festival

What better way to welcome Racines NY to Taste of Tribeca than to share this great New Yorker review of the restaurant from last spring? Racines NY plans to serve sautéed squid, fennel, preserved lemons and chorizo on Saturday. How’s that for haute festival cuisine?

Estancia 460, Greenwich Street Standard-Bearer

What were you doing in 1995? Did you know that Tribeca’s Estancia 460 opened its doors that year? Hats off to one of our favorite Greenwich Street restaurants, whose menu reflects the Italian and Spanish culinary influences in Argentina. Please join us in celebrating Estancia 460 at the festival by tasting some of the restaurant’s delicious empanadas and shrimp gazpacho!



The Story Behind Zucker’s Bagels & Smoked Fish

You’ve been eating Zucker’s hand-rolled, kettle-boiled bagels for years. But, did you know that the hand-rolled part almost never happened? Read the whole story here, if you have the time. Or, skip it, and just enjoy Zucker’s authentic bagel sandwiches at Taste of Tribeca!

Church Street School Musicians and “The Happening”

We’re pleased to announce that the Church Street School’s outstanding teen musicians will be back on the soundstage this year! Musicians include: Noelani Wing, Megan Doyle, and, in duet, Sage Friedman and James Gluck. The performance will take place from 12:40-1PM. And, if you don’t get enough on Saturday, check out the Church Street School’s interactive music and art block party The Happening, on Sunday, May 22nd from 12-4PM at 74 Warren Street.



Heavy-hitting Sandwiches

Today, we’re featuring two festival participants–Revolution Sandwich NY and Tribeca’s very own Hook and Ladder 8–serving two very different sandwiches, both guaranteed to knock your socks off.

Let’s start with Revolution Sandwich. When we saw the chicken tikka wrap that Revolution plans to serve at the festival, complete with spicy tikka sauce, pickled red onions and green chutney, we thought there had been mistake–it looked far too gourmet to fall into the humble “sandwich” category. Even now, our mouths are watering as we contemplate holding the wrap in our greedy little paws!

And, then, there’s the porchetta sandwich from Hook and Ladder 8. We shy away from gender stereotypes here at Taste of Tribeca, but what can we say? This sandwich is fit for a man. Or, woman… Anyone who is tough enough to make it through the eight rigorous steps it takes to become an FDNY Firefighter. Wowsers! No wonder we’re so proud of these men and women! Thanks, Hook and Ladder 8, for your service, and for your support of local public schools PS 150 and PS 234! You’re the best!
