More on Jungsik’s Miyeok

From Jungsik: Miyeok, or Birthday Soup (photo courtesy of Jungsik)

Jungsik’s interpretation of Miyeok (photo courtesy of Jungsik)

The rice dish that will be served by Jungsik at Taste of Tribeca comes with a lovely story. According to General Manager Kyungmoon Kim, Miyeok is a seaweed soup also known as “Birthday Soup.” It is traditionally made for a new mother to help with her recovery, and then on each child’s birthday, the mother will make the soup for her children. Chef Jungsik Yim has reimagined Miyeok by using seaweed and rice to create a paella-style dish.

Tastes of: Innovative Asian

For our first preview of the dishes to be served at Taste of Tribeca 2014, let’s begin with four Asian restaurants known for reimagining traditional dishes or creating new ones altogether: Khe-Yo (Laotian, on Duane between Hudson and West Broadway), Nobu (Japanese, on Hudson and Franklin), Brushstroke (Japanese, on Hudson and Duane), and Jungsik (Korean, on Harrison and Hudson).

Tastes For Every Taste

Our neighborhood may be small, but it is bursting with generosity towards our schools and our children. This year’s 20th anniversary edition of Taste of TriBeCa will feature over 70 local restaurants, each donating their time, resources, and culinary expertise to raise critical funds for PS 150 and PS 234.

From the buttermilk fried chicken of Dirty Bird To Go to the haute Korean cuisine at Jungsik, Taste promises a rich and eclectic range of food offerings. Italian, American, and Japanese restaurants will be most predominant, but we are also pleased to offer dishes from restaurants representing the cuisines of Mexico, India, Argentina, Laos, Ethiopia, Denmark, Spain, and China, to name just a few. So whether you tilt eastern or western, are a carnivore or herbivore, or prefer salty or sweet, we’re confident you will find more than a few dishes to please your palate. In short, there will be tastes to suit every taste.

In the coming weeks, we will be highlighting many of our participating restaurants and their dishes. Check back often, or sign up for our mailing list, like our page on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter and Instagram for the latest updates.
